still resounds like a death knell
for the dreams of Democracy and Liberty
from which we've been weaned;
tolling its ceaseless dirge
for the uncounted legions of our sibling souls,
liberated only from their bodies:
"why our economy so requires warmaking
that perpetual war has united
with expanding profits
as the chief national purpose."
